For those also waiting to hear back from the NDSEG (the other DOD fellowship program), I just got this email in response to one requesting clarification of the notification deadlines:

"Dear *******,

The NDSEG Program Office expects award notifications to be issued via e-mail by April 15. All applicants will be notified via e-mail regarding the status of their application once that information becomes available.

Please be advised.

Thank you,

The NDSEG Program Team at ASEE"

Since the date that they gave SMART potentials was April 9 vs April 15 for NDSEG, I bet SMART finds out first.

True, just as an award annoucement on March 31st used to be on SMART's website. I mentioned this email because it is current information.

Yeah, I looked at some of those a couple of weeks ago...seems there was some issue with stipend payments being delayed significantly, and a lot of complaining about internship support payments being phased out. Hopefully those support payments aren't eliminated entirely. That's one of the big advantages this scholarship offers.

I'm very tempted to call the SMART office to ask when award notifications will go out. Calling on a phone number that's not mine, perhaps? Do I have to give them my name, etc? I don't see why they would have a reason for asking.

Thoughts on this? I'll take one for the team...

I called several times with random questions about the application. I was never asked for my name or any other identifying information. They simply responded to the question and that was it.

I just want to know when to expect the email so I can deal with it. When I called with questions in the past they did not ask my name or anything. Please call them and let us know when the emails are expected to go out.

Could ask them if they will continue to offer Internship Support Payments in light of the temporary reduction and planned revocation of the benefit for current scholars. They backtracked and will continue to fund current scholars but I haven't got clarification on if that means the 2012 class will also receive ISPs.
