I noticed that for a majority of the years (not all) the semi-finalist notifications drop the first Monday of February.

Wonder if we'll get it by the end of today?

I wonder if there will be more delay this year due to uncertainty in Covid. But then it was the same uncertainty last year, right?

There was some uncertainty in April because Semifinalists who did not receive the scholarship got (in their rejection emails) a note saying that we could still receive the scholarship in a later email. But I don't remember there being any uncertainty in February.

I’m a semifinals. I’m happy for everyone who made it! I’m sorry for those who didn’t but I wish you luck with all future endeavors! I was wondering how many people are selected to be a semi finalist?

I applied this year with mostly the same application as last year, though with updates. Got the semifinalist announcement tonight too, same as last year. Small victory!

Btw, I got my rejection email last year on April 6. It was radio silence until then. Let’s hope the Groundhog’s Day prediction for 6 more weeks of winter doesn’t extend to the cold, anxiety-inducing breadth of silence that is the SMART semifinalist phase.

Son is a semifinalist! His SFs listed in application are all here in SoCAL about 45 miles from us.
CA is super competitive so I’m just super stoked on him being semifinalist. Of course, this is just only Step 1 .

Based on previous years, does anyone know of a rough % of semifinalists who eventually get the final offer?

When does the first round of Final offers usually come - is it the last week of April?

Also from previous posts here, I see it’s also possible that other SF (even not listed in his choices) may also consider him for interview, if they like to consider him? Is this true?
