When I did my taxes in turbotax for 2020 my tax owed for federal and state was around $2500. I talked to a CPA and they were able to reduce it to $930. My income was 5 months of SMART stipends + 2 months of W2 internship + a few grand in other scholarships. I'm in NC and she is in FL but she was still able to file my state return too.
