Still in Phase 2 Limbo?

Post by DisappointedSloth »

Redacted for personal information but basically it is possible to graduate in May and be still waiting on a tentative job offer in October.

I was finally told I would be contacted with a job offer.

It took a few weeks from that point to get a phone call for a verbal offer (on a Friday). The Monday after they gave me a tentative offer. I have been waiting over a week after accepting that to get the next set of paperwork.

Things move brutally slow. It took 2.5 years for my clearance to come through. I graduated 6 months before the notification I had a job offer coming. Brutally slow.

SMART moves brutally slow. I've been in a Phase 2 position since January but I haven't even gotten a Phase 2 letter from SMART yet.

Edit (2020-07-27): Turns out SMART silently dropped it into the Scholar Portal on 2020-04-14 without telling me.
I'm a Phase 2 recipient, B.S. in Computer Science, B.S. in Math from Virginia Tech Dec. 2019. I've been with SMART since Spring 2017; Dahlgren is my SF.

Don't walk, run away from SMART (see my first post on this forum).

Thanks for the replies! Glad to know I’m not alone; it is brutal. I’m just going to move and hope for the best at this point. Fingers crossed!

Question: does the amount of time you're stuck in Phase II limbo count toward your contract obligation? I hate the idea of waiting around for 6 months post graduation for them to start my 2.5 year commitment, rather than counting that time towards the commitment.

Thanks

To my understanding, the limbo does NOT count towards the commitment length. I have a two year commitment so once I have a start date, it will be two years from that date.

I got TJO, and am stuck in waiting as well. Im not sure if this is slower for Covid-19 but we shall see as this progresses. Most of my friends I have graduated with have started full time work a while ago. Does anyone know if the SF's are doing work from home?
