Changing Major

Post by Ananymousgal »

Hello! I’m a phase 1 scholar considering a field of study change from computer science to cognitive science. I have the support of my SF and they wrote me a letter of approval but I’m getting nervous waiting to hear back since my EWP for my phase 1 report will depend on its approval. Since I have the support of my SF and they are eager to have me working with their AI/Machine Learning division with my new major, how worried should I be about the request being denied?

Your SF determines whether or not that accept your change of major so if you have their blessing, you should be fine.

I know they're really pushing more AI/ML stuff in the DoD (or at least the Air Force, but I'd imagine it's similar elsewhere) so I'd predict switching to CS or Math with your SF's blessing has a 99.99% chance of being approved

Thanks! I'm just nervous because I still haven't heard anything.

Summer term is starting Wednesday, and if it is still pending I'll have to take a class that would not have to take if it were approved.

I've had the paperwork in for months and it's approval before fall affects two classes in my fall schedule.

I'm trying to find out what SF's would interview math majors (with intent of career in AI/ML). Can you please let me know what SF this (or any other) AI/ML division is, and if there are any math majors there?

This was ARCYBER (I'll be out of Fort Belvoir but the rest out of my cohort at this SF are at Fort Gordon) -- one girl in my cohort is a double Math/CS major
