Tax-tuition & fees
The IRS website says that scholarships that require "future services" are taxable (so the funds SMART pays to the school). Anyone know anything about this?
Re: Tax-tuition & fees
Few things
1. The tax situation has been discussed in several threads before
2. I don't recall hearing this argument before
3. Stipends to US citizens do not have to be reported to the IRS by SMART

Your school will give you a tax form at the end of the year, use it directly. SMART will send you a 1099, use it directly.
