Anyone have any experience with setting up, requesting, and getting an international internship approved? My PhD advisor here in the US was awarded a Fullbright scholarship, and I think it'd be a cool idea to go work with her during Summer '26. For context, I've already completed one SMART internship (+ two others before SMART) with my SF.
Thought I would ask on here for others' experience before bugging anyone from SMART or my SF. Are we limited to Five Eyes countries? NATO-only? Are we responsible for organizing and connecting the international facility with SMART and/or my SF? Not sure if it will actually happen, but would love to hear from others that have done one of these things

Re: Steps to International Internship
This sounds like taking a summer off from the SMART program to do your own research with your advisor, and I really doubt they’d let you do that. There are official international internships sanctioned by SMART every year, you’d have to apply to one of those.
