Anyone know the likelihood other spots open?

In my rejection email, it said that there's a chance new spots open up. Anyone know the likelihood this happens?

I'm in the same position. I'd say the chances are small. Who would reject a full ride and a stipend?

its likely that some people that were given offers may have accepted other fellowships like NSF or NDESG so there is hope.

some reject because they don't want to work at that particular SF for Phase I internships and Phase II service

I would also presume some people read the horror stories on this forum. They have certainly made me question my desire to even apply for the next cycle. I have a summer pathways internship at AFRL coming up, so I'm gonna try to see if there are any SMART scholars there I can pick the brains of before decide whether or not to even apply.

This happened to me - there were five of us that our SF wanted, and they were given three billets. Two people decided to go to different SFs, so the two of us that didn't get initial offers were accepted in August.
