Making a Good Impression with SF

As I wait to hear back from a SF facility I can't help be feel that I should be more proactive about the ensuring that I get a great facility. Is there something you might suggest doing (e.g. contacting researchers at the facility) to improve the changes of being chosen? How might you go about doing these things?
