Demand for Theoretical Mathematicians

Hey, I feel like I am under the impression that most SMART math recipients are in applied mathematics/Operations Research rather than more theoretical math. Just wondering whats the demand for theoretical mathematicians, and what department would be most fitting. I feel like information security (DoD) would be a good place for someone looking into topics such as number theory, etc. but don't see any sites saying specifics. Any ideas / info? Thanks.

look at usajobs.gov to see who is hiring in that field now. go to the bureau of labor statistics to see what the outlook is for the future. forbes or kiplinger has an article (every year?) listing "hot jobs" of "future jobs", you may want to look at those too.
