DOGE cuts and their effects on award rates

Post by Guest »

Do you all think that the DOGE cuts will mean more or less people than usual are selected by sponsoring facilities this year? Or will it have no effect? Why do you believe so?

I think we might see more people selected as SFs try to find ways to bring in fresh talent after losing so much to the cuts. Most agencies aren't exactly eager to lose a bunch of staff and will be looking for ways to fill roles that were lost if they are able to do so. Let me know what you all think.

Hi, If anyone gives a specific answer, it'll be an assumption. I say this b/c nobody knows yet what limitations or restrictions will be put in place. The DoD hiring freeze just came out 28 Feb and the different services are currently trying to gain guidance on breadth of freeze and how various programs are affected. I work for Navy, and all programs are currently paused pending guidance. Paused is just that, not cancelled or go ahead. Reason is the hiring freeze memo was very specific in not fill or onboard any positions. However, guidance is being sought because some programs / hiring actions are required / based on laws. BTW: depending on how a position was vacated, it may not be able to fill. Those positions vacated by Deferred Resignation Program (DRP) requires either the position be abolished or a 1 for 1 substitute. I know SMART is also trying to get guidance.
