Assuming one receives the scholarship, are they expected to complete the internship that year or is it any year of their choosing while they are in school?

My understanding is that it’s every summer. If you are awarded it for a bachelors degree, you would intern for three summers (if graduating in four years), going into sophomore, junior, and senior year.

Every year, not just once.

You are required to complete an internship every year you receive funding
Your internship doesn't start the year you get it though; for example, I got my award April 2021 and my first internship is Summer 2022
