No Preference selection

What happens if I just put no preference for one of my choices on preferred places to work?

Your chances of being chosen will drastically go down sorry to say. If you are a super busy student with an amazing application however sites will still look st you.

What kdsr54 said is true, but let me tell you why!

Why I got called by my SF, they specifically asked why I wanted to work for them. The priority you give is important, not only in terms of knowing what are you want to work, but in terms of the lab prioritizing the first choices.

They will evaluate those who listed them FIRST, and usually if you "fall through" and a facility needs more people, they will go into an extended search.

Find a lab that matches your goals, or is in an area you want. Avoid having a black preference.

My first choice was the only facility that called or interviewed me. Once I got here, my supervisor told me a lot of departments at my SF were competing to give me the award. It is interesting the I seemed so interesting to my first choice and NO other SF reached out.

It seems to really make a difference.

Wow that's great. Out of curiosity, what made your application stand out so much? How good was your resume/GPA/letters?
