Agreed, I received a call from a potential SF just this week and he didn't know anything either. In fact, his first comments were asking me if I had heard anything yet and that he is feeling frustrated at the lack of information on his end too. Certainly, somebody's got to be in the know, but they sure seem to be keeping that information to themselves.

If the SMART program office doesn't have any info, I don't believe that any SF would know, either. Anything else is mere speculation from a non-authoritative source.

Offers going out this week per a reliable source.

Care to share who this reliable source is? I'm skeptical about it really happening this week.

also rejected. I'm guessing you guys got this message:
''This message is to inform you that you were not chosen as one of the Round 1 Finalists
for this year's award competition. Please note, a second round of additional awards
may be issued this month. Your application may be reconsidered for award at that
time. ASEE will keep you apprised of your status as new information becomes available.
We appreciate your interest in the SMART Scholarship Program."

Don't lose all hope. I got in during the second round last year.

A glimmer of hope shines through the dark tunnel. Thanks for the encouragement :) (even if it just makes it a mental 'softer' blow)

Rejected as well and I got the same email. I hear there are only going to be 150 awards offered. It's just as well. Not to sound ungrateful but with all the drama unfolding with govt cuts and Phase II Recipient woes, don't know if I would've taken it anyway. Good luck to everyone who wants the award!!

ACCEPTED! I'm a current DoD employee, aka a "retention applicant". That might have played a role this year, with all the budget cuts hitting our training budgets. But that's just speculation. I applied for one year of funding to finish off my master's degree.

"Dear XXX,

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been awarded a scholarship under the Science, Mathematics, And Research for Transformation Program. Please go to https://smart.asee.org/award for information regarding your award offer. Your login information is the same as that used for your application. Please pay close attention to the due dates for requested materials.

Again, congratulations on your award.

Just got rejected as well. In all honestly I'm not even all that surprised/heartbroken about it, what with the sequester, budget cuts, being in the biosciences which hardly receive any awards, plus hearing about the all the dissatisfaction that recipients have with their positions. I guess I'll keep me fingers crossed for the second round but I highly doubt anything will come of it. Congrats to all those who were accepted though, best of luck!

I also received the congratulatory e-mail. I also am a current DoD civilian employee. In this fiscal environment, it probably did play a significant factor in award consideration.

No e-mail here yet. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...

For those accepted, when is the date you have to accept the award? I assume the second wave will go out after that. Thanks

Rejected. I am a current DoD employee. So it doesn't look like that played a roll.
