Applying Again

I applied for this scholarship last year as a freshman at UCLA, and I didn't get it. I'm reapplying, and I've actually already submitted my application. Does anyone know if the odds are more in my favor as a sophomore since they have to pay for one less year of tuition?
Extra info: I'm a cognitive science major and I'm working on creating a minor in communication disorders. I have 3 quarters of coding experience (2 in C++, 1 in Java) as well.

This is purely speculative, but it makes sense to me (given the high attrition rate of freshman engineering students from engineering programs) that you might have more evidence to show yourself as a valid investment at this point in your academic career. Just my opinion though since the selection process is fairly mysterious.

I applied for SMART as a sophomore and got thru the first round (academics) and got interviewed by multiple SFs. I ultimately was not awarded the scholarship, partially because my #1 SF choice already had an employee that applied to SMART.

I applied again last year as a junior and received the scholarship AND got placed at my #1 SF choice.

Don't give up. Be persistent. Tell your SF how enthusiastic you are about working there. Trust me, it's worth it :)
