Any Contact Yet??
Any Contact Yet??
Has anyone been contacted by a potential SF yet? I know just because you don't get contacted doesn't mean your out, I was just curious as to if anyone has been contacted.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
I was wondering the same thing. I haven't been contacted since receiving the round 2 email. Not holding my breath though.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
When exactly should we be getting contacted and should it be from smart or from a facility?
Re: Any Contact Yet??
I cannot speak to the when as they never stick to a timeline, but the who I can. If you are contacted, it will be from the SF to do a telephone interview for a position. As others have said, no call doesn't mean no go, and getting a call doesn't mean getting it either. Your best bet is to forget you applied until about May, then come back to look for updates. Until you receive the Go-No go email put it out of your mind.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
I heard from an SF today! The SF is Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. They asked for times I'm available for a phone interview next week.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
Funny enough, I heard from Tinker, as well. Same e-mail, it sounds like.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
I also received an email from Tinker Air Force Base. It was not one of my top 3, but I am very interested.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
For those of you that heard from Tinker AFB, what is your major/discipline? They weren't one of my top three either, but I had considered them and am curious as to what sort of people they seem to be looking for.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
Pursuing a BS in Computer Science (transferred from Aerospace Eng.), minor in Statistics, and have two summers of intern experience in USN rotorcraft maintenance analysis with NAVAIR. They weren't in my top 3 either, but I'd say I'm more than interested given my experience.

PhD MSE. Currently a senior in MSE. Three summers/school years of analyitcal instrumentation experience. One summer research project abroad focused on composite polymer fibers.
Re: Any Contact Yet??
I have been contacted by a few facilities over the past couple weeks. Since I have gained so much insight from this forum, I thought I would contribute by sharing some information that I desperately sought prior to my interviews. The "interviews" seem to vary from facility to facility. As mentioned in several posts, some facilities, supposedly, do not conduct any interviews. Obviously, I can't speak to this since I wouldn't know, but I assume it's valid since so many state this.
Some facility "interviews" are really just casual chats in which they do most of the talking, explaining what they do, the location, expectations, pay, etc. and they just want to be sure you are a good fit and that you would be interested if offered the scholarship through their facility (especially important if they were not in your list of preferred facilities).
I have also had a couple that were full interviews (Tell us about yourself, What are weaknesses/strengths?, etc.). They were fairly basic and never lasted more than an hour, but they were truly interviews. Also, each interview was on a conference call with 2-4 people on the line. I even had one that took place over multiple phone calls, one for general interest and information with the real interview to follow.
Also, something to note for timing... One mentioned that they are trying to have their interviews and rankings completed by April 12th. I have no idea if this is their personal deadline or if this is the overall "deadline" for all facilities. As many have stated, we certainly shouldn't be holding our breath to any date (if it's even possible not to), but I thought I'd share what I know.

I spoke with the SMART team on Thursday, and they stated there was no official deadline for the interviews yet, so that was probably an internal goal. The SMART team is awaiting notice from the DOD to end the interviews, which could come at any moment and could state any date (even "immediately"). So the evaluation cycle will end sometime between tomorrow and next year :SFingers-Crossed 2 wrote:Also, something to note for timing... I'm an anxious Freshman applicant mother and don't know if I am allowed to post here, but given my son is involved in two Research project he doesn't have time to post. I have been following the forum and appeciate the good information so thought I would give back. He received this message yesterday:
Thank you very much for interviewing with XXXXX over the past couple of weeks! You are receiving this email because we have tentatively selected you to move forward to the final round of eliminations by the SMART Program administrators. If offered the SMART Scholarship by XXXXX, would you accept? Also, please let me know if you have already been tentatively selected by any other DoD facility. Please let me know your decision as soon as possible and no later than April 11th.
It does say "Tentatively".... as everything with the Federal Government does these days given the sequestering.
Am unaware of any offical deadlines, but he was told the applicant pool is down to a few hundred now...

Re: Any Contact Yet??
First off, that is great. You should be proud.
SMART hasn't given any awards yet (or at least I haven't heard). It sounds like he was accepted in to a potential job after he completes the SMART program (this will be the job he takes after interning with SMART). I think that he must get the award from SMART first to get hired by that employer. I am not positive, but I think this is correct.
