One can only hope that they release their decisions today at Close of Business.guestSK wrote:So is this upcoming Monday the official end to the "few weeks"? Do you think we will get another update then? I would like to hear something at least, it has been a while. Even if they just tell us they are ironing out the details of the agreements. They've decided on awardees. They're working out re-wording the contract and handbook.guestSK wrote:So is this upcoming Monday the official end to the "few weeks"? Re: 2012 Applicants
We don't have a hard deadline so we can all hope for information ASAP but ASEE won't hit another day like the 9th where they feel they have to communicate information to us.guestSK wrote:So is this upcoming Monday the official end to the "few weeks"? How do you know that awardees have been decided? Did you speak to someone at the SMART office or get an email?Guest wrote:They've decided on awardees. Re: 2012 Applicants
I've been in contact with my SF and asked 'are you of the impression that awardees have already been selected?'. His response was, "My understanding is the final selections have been made and that they are just doing a review of some administrative stuff." I know it isn't an official statement from ASEE, but he also mentioned he'd seen a 'list', along with an email from the Air Force POC that said "The delay at this time is the review of the contract and student handbook by OGC at OSD." Which, to me, seems like they're past the budgeting stage and just marking up the contracts before sending them out.tiredOfWaiting wrote:How do you know that awardees have been decided? So does that mean we should probably hear today?

Apparently I can't quote properly today O_O My apologies.
Re: 2012 Applicants
No. They could be held up with a legal review of the new handbook which could take time. We can all hope for today but in this process choosing applicants is probably the easy part. It is getting everything approved fiscally and legally that is the big hold up.ORgirl wrote:So does that mean we should probably hear today?
Re: 2012 Applicants
Yeah, I asked if we'd hear within the week. His response was along the lines of 'Probably not. But soon.' So... yay vague replies. Soon to me was like 2 weeks ago...WaitingIsFun wrote:No. They could be held up with a legal review of the new handbook which could take time. Re: 2012 Applicants
Well, three hours till close of business for the week... it's looking like we're not going to hear anything today.
Re: 2012 Applicants
Unless they want to wait until 4:59. I think I would.gatsby wrote:Well, three hours till close of business for the week... it's looking like we're not going to hear anything today.
Re: 2012 Applicants
If this is true, that they are just working through the legal stuff with the handbook, then I would reason we should see the guidelines page get updated with the new 2012 Handbook before notifications are sent out.Guest wrote: I've been in contact with my SF and asked 'are you of the impression that awardees have already been selected?'. The guidelines page was last updated in March to include the 2012 Internship Guidelines and Policy Update Summary. There was an update to the events page yesterday, but they have only added to the "Event Calendar", not the "Program Calendar." I think it is very interesting that they don't list the July orientation yet, it makes me think they haven't arranged/scheduled it yet because of all the delays so far.

Re: 2012 Applicants
Eh, I'd be perfectly happen with an email saying "You [have/have not] been selected for the SMART fellowship. For those selected, contracts will be sent out in the next few weeks for you to accept or decline." I don't think too many of us would be horribly offended by not having a copy of the contract immediately, as long as we at least knew our status.
Re: 2012 Applicants
I totally agree, but why wouldn't they have already done that?smart_hopeful wrote:Eh, I'd be perfectly happen with an email saying "You [have/have not] been selected for the SMART fellowship. Re: 2012 Applicants
My guess (purely speculation) is that the new contracts contain some reduction in funding (either the ISP or the stipends). So if the OGC doesn't approve those changes, for whatever reason, SMART would be able to fund fewer people. So they can't send out a generic email about our statuses, because the number of scholarships awarded may change pending the legal review.gatsby wrote:I totally agree, but why wouldn't they have already done that?smart_hopeful wrote:Eh, I'd be perfectly happen with an email saying "You [have/have not] been selected for the SMART fellowship. Either that, or the SPO is just enjoying watching us squirm. Hopefully not, though :)

It is possible they have a prioritized list of applicants and just need to know where the cutoff line is. So they know who they want but not how many they can get until everything is approved.
Re: 2012 Applicants
I can't either. I'm so over all this waiting and being asked everyday by people "any word yet?"Guest wrote:I can't take another week of this...
Re: 2012 Applicants
I emailed the contact at one of the SF that I had an interview with, asking if my name was forwarded. She ended up calling me the next day saying that no my name wasn't forwarded because they had a full time position that needed to be filled by next may (i'm a sophomore). So she said it was between me and this other guy, the other guy was picked because he was graduating sooner. Quite a bummer, but I still have a chance from the other SFs I had interviews with. At least I think I do, i haven't contacted them about my status as far as being forwarded. Sucks to know it was because of a technicality, but i'm still kinda stoked that it came down between me and this other guy, 2 people of all they interviewed. Best of luck people
Re: 2012 Applicants
Le sigh... looks like more waiting. At least weekends I know we won't hear anything, so I can relax.
Re: 2012 Applicants
I doubt it, but you never know. Monday is the last day of April. End-of-the-month and start-of-the-month seem like the kinds of dates that might appear in the government tea leaves.Random1313 wrote:soooooooo.............. tomorrow???
Re: 2012 Applicants
My tea leaves say this week, but my spirit is broken from the waiting. I'm glad that I'm a current grad student and not someonr waiting to hear back before the go to grad school. The end is near, folks! Just how near remains to be seen ...smart_hopeful wrote:I doubt it, but you never know. Monday is the last day of April.
