So is this upcoming Monday the official end to the "few weeks"? Do you think we will get another update then? I would like to hear something at least, it has been a while. Even if they just tell us they are ironing out the details of the agreements. Or maybe give us a better idea of how many they will be accepting, or the funding situation, something, anything.

One can only hope that they release their decisions today at Close of Business.

We don't have a hard deadline so we can all hope for information ASAP but ASEE won't hit another day like the 9th where they feel they have to communicate information to us.

Which, to me, seems like they're past the budgeting stage and just marking up the contracts before sending them out.

No. They could be held up with a legal review of the new handbook which could take time. We can all hope for today but in this process choosing applicants is probably the easy part. It is getting everything approved fiscally and legally that is the big hold up.

Yeah, I asked if we'd hear within the week. His response was along the lines of 'Probably not. But soon.' So... yay vague replies. Soon to me was like 2 weeks ago...

If this is true, that they are just working through the legal stuff with the handbook, then I would reason we should see the guidelines page get updated with the new 2012 Handbook before notifications are sent out.
The guidelines page was last updated in March to include the 2012 Internship Guidelines and Policy Update Summary. There was an update to the events page yesterday, but they have only added to the "Event Calendar", not the "Program Calendar." I think it is very interesting that they don't list the July orientation yet, it makes me think they haven't arranged/scheduled it yet because of all the delays so far.

Eh, I'd be perfectly happen with an email saying "You [have/have not] been selected for the SMART fellowship. For those selected, contracts will be sent out in the next few weeks for you to accept or decline." I don't think too many of us would be horribly offended by not having a copy of the contract immediately, as long as we at least knew our status.

So if the OGC doesn't approve those changes, for whatever reason, SMART would be able to fund fewer people. So they can't send out a generic email about our statuses, because the number of scholarships awarded may change pending the legal review.

Either that, or the SPO is just enjoying watching us squirm. Hopefully not, though :)

It is possible they have a prioritized list of applicants and just need to know where the cutoff line is. So they know who they want but not how many they can get until everything is approved.

I emailed the contact at one of the SF that I had an interview with, asking if my name was forwarded. She ended up calling me the next day saying that no my name wasn't forwarded because they had a full time position that needed to be filled by next may (i'm a sophomore). So she said it was between me and this other guy, the other guy was picked because he was graduating sooner. Quite a bummer, but I still have a chance from the other SFs I had interviews with. At least I think I do, i haven't contacted them about my status as far as being forwarded. Sucks to know it was because of a technicality, but i'm still kinda stoked that it came down between me and this other guy, 2 people of all they interviewed. Best of luck people

My tea leaves say this week, but my spirit is broken from the waiting. I'm glad that I'm a current grad student and not someonr waiting to hear back before the go to grad school. The end is near, folks! Just how near remains to be seen ...
