Re: Contact Info for Smart Higher Ups?
You can often find contacts for people you are not supposed to. The thing is, we don't really have someone between her and a SMART advisor. So it limits our options on what we can do when these things happen. If they wanted us to have it, they would have included it in our handbooks.

Who is your contact? You may be able to e-mail a different one. It is a few pages back, but someone posted an email for a director or administrator.

Re: Question about Shifting from PhD to Masters
You need to file an SAAR to request a change of Degree Level. The SAAR has a box for this, so it is something they consider. They will require explanation and such, as outlined in the SAAR page 3 or 4.

Will you keep your existing benefits? Thought you'd get on SMART benefits for the higher degree. May want to verify. That would interest me if we kept the salary from our SF

My history was too long. Add a page to it with a pdf merge. List that semester again and note continued.

Sorry for delay!
Yes, they like CS too.
Both groups that called me use CS majors. In fact the first team is mostly CS.

Re: TARDEC, Warren Michigan
TARDEC can take a bit to get back to you. TARDEC gives the scholars stack to all the teams, and the teams usually discuss if they want people and who they want. Any team that wants you may call you. HOWEVER, teams may list you without calling to talk to you as well. I was listed by 3 teams and calle...

SMART is never refundable. If this is the case, it is either not SMART (payer of last resort), or you are about to have an adjustment to your aid.

Correct.
Attending outside the two normal semesters requires a request for additional tuition. The prior form changed your internship stuff. You need a second request for tuition. I have no idea why they do it this way.

Re: Anyone entered repayment?
Yeah, I have to sign up for classes. However, this was the interim clearance, if the main clearance is rejected for whatever reason (wondering if my references failed or something), repayment terms become important.

Anyone entered repayment?
Somehow my interim clearance was denied, which concerns me. So I am wondering of they set up a payment plan, convert to loans or how they handle repayment.

Re: How are Self Employment Tax Deductions Cheaper?
The stipend should still be able to be considered scholarship income if you want it to . That is absolutely not how I expect the IRS does things. There is a right way to report this, and a wrong way. The question is if they would catch the wrong way, not if there isn't one. My concern is picking th...

This is 1099MISC income, it is not scholarship income itself.
That said, accountants may have a way to fudge that.

Re: Electives not necessary in degree completion
While taking so many extra classes kind of sucks.... being able to take what you want a bit sounds very nice. If I took 1 extra semester, I could dual major with dual bachelors. They did not want to sign on that, but if my semesters get messed up because of conflicts of schedule, I may take the clas...

Re: Electives not necessary in degree completion
That.. is a good question. I would assume yes if it does not change your progression. If it would slow down your degree, I assume they would say no. You can always ask to be safe, but generally, more knowledge shouldn't be a bad thing. Sadly, to be very safe, you should check. I can't see them sayin...

Thanks for the answers.
My school is within 50 miles. My expected address when I return isn't, but that isn't set in stone itself as of yet.
EDIT: No response yet on the clearance, but I assumed interim clearance in the meantime.

Living Situation and Internship Support Payments
Hi all! As I have posted before, I am living in Japan for study abroad till around May. I do not know where I will live when I get back right now, might land at mother's house and then move from there. What I am wondering is how they handle Internship Support Payments when you do not have a clear ad...

Re: No Preference selection
What happens if I just put no preference for one of my choices on preferred places to work? What kdsr54 said is true, but let me tell you why! Why I got called by my SF, they specifically asked why I wanted to work for them. The priority you give is important, not only in terms of knowing what are ...

Still waiting on security clearance status
I was sent the link for paperwork in September and finished it, including revisions fairly quickly. It has been about 2 months since I got an e-mail from my SF saying "The paperwork has been sent for final review", and haven't heard since. Anyone know how long this normally takes? I feel like this i...

Re: Study Abroad?
Hi! I am currently studying abroad, so I think I can answer this! Paying for study abroad usually involves paying the cost through your school, or your school charges for the credit hours they are transferring and adjusts the amount if needed. So in my case, the study abroad sends an invoice for bal...

Re: Security Clearance Timing?
My paperwork started in September, currently waiting on final review.
When I tried contacting people about it, I was told there was nothing to do but wait. So at least for my lab, you cannot do anything to move things along.

Security Clearance Timing?
