Re: Semi-Finalists
Does anyone know the typical starting salary out of college for the DOD for someone with only an undergraduate degree. I think BS is an automatic pay grade of GS 6. I think masters is GS 8 and Ph.D is GS 11. (I'm not positive of the Masters and Ph.D levels) Okay, here's most of the stuff regarding ...

Re: Cash Award
I remember seeing somewhere that taxes are NOT deducted from your cash award. YOU have to take the proper steps to make sure you pay the appropriate taxes. If you do not, you will have to pay come tax season. Obviously, you will have to pay your taxes. However, for anyone younger and with no signif...

Re: Summer Internship
Matthew,
These numbers are wrong, but it's something like this: if you live within 50 (30 maybe) miles of the base, you get nothing. If you live any farther, you get some large amount, I think $2000ish a month extra stipend.

You will not have an internship the first summer. The paperwork and clearances take too long. I'm not aware of anyone who as gotten around this.

Re: NREIP applying for SMART
If you meet the minimum requirements, and are in the top half of applicants, you will be passed on. Odds are that your manager would be able to tell you that you've been accepted before SMART gets back to you.

Re: Course Load to Graduation
I have to disagree with ccain. Generally, the rules are A) you must take every course for credit that can be taken for credit B) you cannot take any courses other than those which are required for your major C) you must be a full time student, feds say 12 credits. Without working something out ahead...

Re: Undergrad -> Masters Degree
Smart-Applicant, It works something like this: You have facilities who try to recruit the overall highest scored applicants, facilities who look at those who have selected them as a preferred location, and services, e.g. Army Corps of Engineers, with facilities that no one has heard of before. It is...

It's based on your degree. All BS are 25k. Graduate degrees are higher with some possible increases.

If I remember correctly, you cannot reuse references in a different section. I believe it yells at you when you do the final review (if you're doing it online)...or maybe it said that in a footnote somewhere by the character references. Either way, pretty sure you can't

As you move higher up, it could matter more. However, that's more of a discussion with your security advisor once you are accepted.
The wife could be an issue, but I really have not idea how the government views Trinidad with respect to its security integrity.

Re: Drug usage
Has anyone been approved for using marijuana less than 6 times during the last 7 year period. Used it 7 months ago but will never do it again. It will not necessarily rule you out. It depends on how strong your academics are and other aspects of your security profile. Generally speaking, a limited ...

Re: My Experience with the Application Process
PhysGuy- Indicating a specific interest was probably a good idea. It won't exclude you nearly as much as you may think, but it is a significant boost if someone associated with the program sees your application I certainly will not hurt to have research in another field. Any research is always a plu...

I'm intrigued by this too. I'll see if I can get an answer tomorrow. I'd be very surprised if they asked everyone to complete an entire SF-86.

Re: My Experience with the Application Process
I do not know if you will be able to answer this question, but do you think that the fact that Robotics Engineering wasn't on the list of disciplines hurt my chances of getting accepted into this program? Furthermore, given what you know about other applicants and their qualifications, that is othe...

I am applying for the smart scholarship, but I am stuck on how to format my goals. Do you have a sample? Do anyone think it is fair that they are extending the application deadline like this? I think this is very unprofessional. This happened last year too. We never really got an explanation why. I...

Re: My Experience with the Application Process
Hi, I am currently a sophomore in college, but I am going to be transferring to a different college next semester. Any idea if this hurts my chances since I haven't "established" myself at the University for which the SMART Scholarship is being sought? I have done well at my current school, but I j...

Re: My Experience with the Application Process
It seemed like a lot of Freshmen were selected to be "Alternates" last year. I was one of them. I have kept my GPA up, and engaged in some on-campus research and I am crossing my fingers for that I get selected this year. @Chris, Is it true that 50% of candidates make the first cut? But the scholar...

Thanks for all the great information. Thankfully I have done everything correctly for I submitted my application today and just found this website. Sorry for not getting back to you guys sooner, there was a moderation cue issue. I already have an ROTC scholarship lined up, but am not yet committed (started).
