Re: Transition from Phase I to Phase II

Not sure if anyone ever PM'd you about this, but I can try and answer a little bit from my own experience. I've been in Phase II for about 10 months now. All in all, the hiring process actually went better than expected, although things were a bit stressful for awhile, because of the hiring freeze a...

Re: May/June Graduation

For those of you concerned on hiring, they are getting everything out, it's just taking a VERY long time (and some seriously diligence on the part of HR and your SF mentors).

Re: 2012 Cohort: Pay scale

With PhD they told us GS13. Just got hired to my SF and we definitely do not get a GS13 for a PhD. I have a GS11/12 position. My boss tried for a GS 11/12/13 but those just do not exist, so I guess I'll have to compete for that 13 in a few years. If they've told you that you get a 13, definitely ge...

This is awesome to hear! Hopefully I'll be hearing something soon from my SF. Did anything special have to get done?

@Kaelinth look at the bottom of page 2 of this Army policy for the hiring freeze http://cpol.army.mil/library/general/20130227-DA-guidance.pdf "13. Scholarship Program Graduates. DoD and Army have various scholarship programs that lead to the employment of graduates who have incurred a service agre...

Re: May/June Graduation

Ugh, bummer.

And I agree, someone needs to come out to say something, because the uncertainty is not good. My husband and I are planning a move because of this, and at this point, we can't stop, because of his job situation. So we may be moving across the country for no reason.

Re: May/June Graduation

My POC at my SF contacted us and had us send our resumes and transcripts in for the process to begin, but the POC said not to expect to hear anything before late April/Early May. That's about the only thing I've done. But then again, the hiring freeze is not affecting the SMART scholars at my SF. (...

Thank you so much! Hopefully my HR person can figure out why they're not affected and I might be.

Re: Phase I Participants-Hiring Freeze/Sequestration

i have two kids graduationg in May, one in the SMART program and one did NREIP. The NREIP student accepted a job offer, but missed the hiring freeze cut-off by four days, and so he is affected. The SMART student worked at the SF last summer, and has been told by her SF that she is not frozen (at le...

Re: Sequestration

Okay not a huge surprise that your facility is confused, it's probably mine. Your facility may also need an MOU from SPO. I know the virtual HR rep that facilitates SMART hiring for the Army, and would be willing to pass along her email. Contact info for the other services unfortunately I do no kno...

Re: Phase I Participants-Hiring Freeze/Sequestration

Gee, it'd be nice if they gave us more of an idea of what exactly we were supposed to be doing in order to get hired. The handbook says very little to nothing other than get hired. So, I'll just try my best to stay on top of it. I've already submitted my CV and transcripts, which is all that has bee...

Re: Sequestration

I am also Army, and I think I know who you are speaking about. If it is, then my HR rep at my SF has already been in contact with her. I can see if the SPO can provide anything in addition and I'll pass the rest on to my HR person. I'm still new to a lot of this, so trying to get all of the jargon u...

Re: Phase I Participants-Hiring Freeze/Sequestration

OK, thanks. Sorry about your NREIP student. Hopefully my SF will figure out what's going on, because it sounds like right now, they are saying they can't do anything. And I am not the first SMART student brought in by my SF either.

OK, so nix the contact, I can do that. I haven't progressed far anyway.

How do I make it clear to my SF that they have the authority to hire me? Right now, they are telling me they can't do anything.

Re: Phase I Participants-Hiring Freeze/Sequestration

Re: Sequestration

I'm currently in my final semester of Phase I and am quite worried about being brought into my SF upon graduation. Has anyone heard anything about the current crop of Phase I graduates and their chances of getting hired? My SF can only give me so much information, which is not much. Basically, their...

I have both contacted my elected representatives as well as the SPO one more time. I have heard nothing from any of my elected reps. However, I did only email on Sunday. I did get something somewhat informative back from my CA. It's still a little vague, but better than some of the other responses I...

Re: 1099

I emailed about the 1099 this week and they said that the forms would be mailed out this week. They were late in coming last year. And yes, the ISP is included in that income. And definitely pay your quarterly taxes. My first year, I didn't worry about the quarterly for the Aug-Dec period and took a...

Re: Anyone get a CAC yet under the new guidelines?

My SF/POC initiated the process of getting the CAC this week. The provided us with the necessary information to get our email address (without a CAC) and then we provided additional information to our TA. My TA then initiated my CVS and it took all of about 45 minutes to complete from there. At this...

Hey guys, don't know if anyone else received this, but I did receive the email with instructions for gaining security clearance today. Not sure if it's because I emailed the SMART security office, or if there were just two rounds of mailings that went out, perhaps by last name (I'm in the "T's").

Eh. One hopes they wouldn't punish you if they are at fault. The e-mail I received actually looked like some sort of forwarded e-mail, not exactly professional. It wouldn't surprise me if something was lost in translation, though I doubt you're the only person in that boat. Maybe they just sent it ...
