Re: 2021 Finalist Rejection Emails?
I also got the rejection email :( I don't know what more I could've done - I'll be graduating December 22 so this was my last opportunity to apply. I even had two interviews and one location told me that I was their top choice (the wording they used was 'priority' but I don't remember the exact con...

Re: 2021 Finalist Rejection Emails?
Just got a rejection email. ;( "Hello SMART Applicant, Thank you for applying for the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program. At this time, you have not been selected for an award. The Department of Defense will continue to make awards over the ...

Re: 2021 Finalist Decisions
Just found out that I received the award! I'm entering a PhD program this fall. Congrats to everyone else who got it!! :) I'm wondering: Under the "My Info" part of the Awardee Portal, the first line is for "Service Commitment." For me, this says 5, presumably the number of years I'll be enrolled i...

Re: 2021 Finalist Decisions
I have a question because I'm thinking about future summers. By accepting this we agree to internships for any summer that our scholarship crosses over. So does that mean we basically won't have a summer anymore? Just trying to see what I should tell my mom about family vacations starting next year...

Re: Applications
Someone on a different post back in December posted this (link below), "Spoke to the SMART office today. As of 3:15, there were about 2000 completed applications and about 8000 in progress. The person I spoke with indicated there might be over 500 scholarships awarded this round." Keep in mind that ...

I applied for the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center - Kirtland AFB, NM, haven't heard a peep. In fact, haven't gotten anything from anyone.

Re: pass/fail and smart
Dilly is definitely correct, you can pass/fail unless you are already accepted (you can still do it even if you are accepted in a few weeks). But if you do it and reapply next year, it might be a hit on your chances again.

Not sure why they said two weeks, but that's not true. Winners will be notified in early April.

Re: Is Statistics a STEM degree?
I think a better question is that even if "statistics" is under mathematics, what are the odds a sponsoring facility would even consider taking on a person doing that?

Re: Any USACE recipients/hopefuls?
I feel you man. Haven't heard a peep. I'm from Florida, but I applied for the AFCS-MCS in New Mexico, and the DIA-SIC in Alabama. My essay was focused toward the New Mexico SF so hopefully it doesn't turn any one else off. One thought I have had though is that there still are a lot of applicants, so...

I would probably say transcripts, references, and then resume. Unless your a graduate or PhD student they know you don't have much work experience.

Re: Semifinalists
I was selected as a semi-finalist and had my interview with my sponsor where I was told he wants me and his placing a bid for me. What does this mean? Holy sh1t, that's awesome! Basically what that means is that you got the scholarship. When the SF put in a bid for you it means that they want you a...

Re: Interview calls
Didn't get my first interview until late March. Just keep a focus on school and research how these interviews typically go in order to develop a game plan. In my case there were a couple questions about things on my resume and my plans for the future. How did they contact you in order to set up an ...

Re: Semifinalists
Hello! Does anyone know if it helps to reach out to the SF's as a semifinalist, before interviews? Or is it better to just wait for them to contact you, if at all I would definitely not. The all SF's receive your application and go from there. Not all SF's do interviews, and those who do wouldn't w...

Re: Semifinalists
Son is a semifinalist! His SFs listed in application are all here in SoCAL about 45 miles from us. CA is super competitive so I’m just super stoked on him being semifinalist. Of course, this is just only Step 1 . Based on previous years, does anyone know of a rough % of semifinalists who eventually...

Re: When would the internship period start?
The summer internship begins in summer 2022 (assuming you get it). If you are accepted, you also will have to do a site visit at your sponsoring facility for a day or two in the summer of 2021 around July-ish. I am a semi-finalist this year, but I have heard that some places did virtual site visits ...

Re: Standardized Testing Scores - Waived this cycle?
Senior coming out of high school here. No, I don't think they will. Let's look at the possible types of applicant and when SAT (just so I don't have to say ACT everytime) scores were taken. Incoming Freshman, took SAT's at latest fall 2019, pre-COVID-19. Sophomores and up, took SAT's before fall 201...

Questions For You all (Future Applicant)
Hello, I am a current senior at a public high school in Florida. I currently hold a 4.58 GPA weighted, 3.96 unweighted, 1380 SAT and 28 ACT. I currently work at a Chick-Fil-A and am in multiple honor societies at my school. After graduation, I plan on attending Embry-Riddle for a degree in Aerospace...
