Re: 2021 Applicants Thread
Spoke to the SMART office today. As of 3:15, there were about 2000 completed applications and about 8000 in progress. The person I spoke with indicated there might be over 500 scholarships awarded this round. That's interesting... I wonder how many out of the 8000 in progress hit that submit button...

Re: Advice for a cognitive, neural, and behavioral science applicant
I hope someone from your field can weigh in, but I'll throw this out there again about the PhD process---SMART does not play well with PhD applicants. There's a hard limit on funding. If you don't finish your research by then, you're in default with them on every penny given to you, including inter...

Re: 2021 Applicants Thread
For human factors you could try applying to some of the Navy facilities. Specifically, Naval Submarine Medical Research Lab and Naval Undersea Warfare Center have human factors scientists/engineers. I think NUWC is bigger than NSMRL so probably has more funding. Wow! Thanks for the heads up :) I'll...

We should scope this thread in a way that helps us make our applications more competitive. If you were awarded the scholarship, could you provided your materials anonymously?

I know we're dealing with our initial reactions to the rejection, but we should start working on tips and strategies for winning the scholarship next year. Re: 2020 Semifinalists
When is the last week? Last week of March. It is my understanding that the first week of April is when finalists are notified (much like first week of February was when semi-finalists were notified). I was told the last day that SFs had to make their selections was today March 18. Unless that has c...

Re: Coronavirus and Internships
I can't imagine internships will be fulfilled. DoD travel (to include DoD civilians AND contractors) is restricted through May 11, ATM. Most DoD employees are teleworking as well. Any scholar who has an internship that it supposed to begin around this time period should also be restricted from trav...

I'm a semi-finalist and have a NREIP internship coming up this summer in San Diego. I hope the coronavirus will not interfere with my internship.
