Re: Articles that helped me with my taxes
Thank you. I’m currently trying to plan out how this will work for me next year should I be awarded. Can I ask you a few questions? My biggest concern is over the self-employment (SE) tax. For a stipend of $25,000, I would end up paying close to $5000 in taxes if I file as independent and almost $80...

Re: 2020 Semifinalists
I'm surprised more people aren't looking at the "2020 Finalist Decisions" thread. But I'm sure that will jump as soon as people start posting the acceptance news.

Re: 2020 Finalist Decisions
Has anyone emailed SMART and asked when they will be released? Yes. Here’s what they said a week ago: “Hi, Thank you for your email. Applicants will be notified via email in February if they do or do not make it past the first round and final award notifications will go out April.” I was also told ...

In previous years, based on looking back through the forum, release dates were: 2019: Friday, April 5 at 9am CT 2018: Monday, April 9 at ~2pm CT 2017: Tuesday, May 9 (I think) And from a post in 2017 (https://www.thesmartforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=8632#p8632) 2010 April 01 2011 April 01 2012 June 08 ...

Re: 2020 Semifinalists
Hey all, Does any one know of someone getting this scholarship with no interviews? I was notified of being a semi-finalist but have only heard radio silence up until now. The only thing holding my hope together is that I was a research associate/intern fr 4 months at my first choice SF this past su...

Re: 2020 Semifinalists
Hey everyone, I'm a EE major transferring from a California Community College to Cal Poly SLO. I've gotten 4 interviews. 2 were from different squadrons at my top choice facility (Edwards AFB). The other two were from facilities that I did not select, Picatinny Arsenal in NJ and Camp Pendleton in CA...

Re: SF Choosing
I had had 4 interviews with two of them from different squadrons at the same facility. This last week, SMART called me and asked if I wanted to rerank any of my preferences. My guess is that my name was submitted by multiple facilities and that is why they wanted to clarify. So like a previous post ...

Re: Suggestions for Sponsoring Facilities in CA
-China Lake has a huge R&D program, they're a good one to look at and they're on the R&D payscale. -SMC (Los Angeles) is an acquisition base, there's very limited R&D and generally it's not the civilians doing the R&D but rather the Contractors for what tiny bit there is. Thanks so much! Do you kno...

Suggestions for Sponsoring Facilities in CA
Having been following this forum for some time, I have noticed that many SMART Scholars have been disappointed with their post-graduation employment. Consequently, I am searching for background information on the listed sponsoring facilities in case I get an interview and also so I can better select...
