Yeah I was thinking that but it is required by law that they hold your job for up to 60 months if you have to leave for military duty and treat you like you were never gone when you return. Does it usually take that long for them to bring you on though? I'm looking at joining the reserves and I could use that time to get my training in before I start. Making the best of it I guess...

I wouldn't recommend trying to join the reserves or guard of any kind while you're doing your time commitment because you have 8-12 weeks of training (depending on branch and whether you do enlisted or officer route) AND you always have the risk of being called to active duty.
