So to confirm, this means the stipend is **NOT** taxable? And if the stipend was my only income, then I shouldn't owe any taxes? It's so hard to keep this stuff straight. Wrong! I'd suggest getting in contact with someone at your SF to see if they or someone they know has a spare bedroom to rent out. That's what I did and my rent was very cheap. I just transferred to Georgia Tech after two years at another university.
