For everyone else's information, I contacted SMART and they said it would have no impact as long as you qualify for your state requirements.

I would follow some very simple life advice that has served me well.
Do not ask questions you do not want to hear answers to.

To be on the safe side, I would email SMART.

If we give you the wrong answer, you could be in trouble. SMART, to my knowledge, only says not to work over 16 hours a week. Unemployment is state, not federal last I knew, the federal money from CARES is given to states still.

Your student loans, if not private, should be at 0 payment and 0% interest until December at least.

Now if you used this to apply and got in trouble, that'd be bad, so check with them directly. Note that you lost the job and want to seek unemployment.

I understand the stipend SMART allows us is fairly generous, however I have student loans and I previously worked part time while going to school as a scholar. I've lost that job and the absence of the extra money is not fun. Would taking unemployment (under the CARES act) break compliance with SMART handbook? Does it count as "federal funding"?
