It's going to depend on your sponsoring facility, but I'll have you know that there are organizations within the DoD that have been directed to significantly reduce headcount. They aren't authorized to extend the employment of their term employees, much less hire on new employees (stated differently, some high-performing employees are losing their jobs because their organization isn't authorized to keep them).

Not me, but my SF has been trying hard to save someone in this situation. They just paid for his PhD and his research was perfect for the role. The GS15 running the office/team doesn't seem to be getting any clear guidance on what's supposed to happen next. I've seen email chains longer than my leg that have all kinds of people working very hard to not give a straight answer.

For scholars still in the transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2, what do you think is going to happen? Sometimes it's easy to feel isolated from other scholars. Have any of you gotten any special insights? Anything you can share? Personally, I've been told to start putting out feelers for other jobs, but that they still won't really know for a while.
