I am a College Freshman Army ROTC student and recently received the SMART Scholarship! My service obligation to the Army does not start until my Sophomore year. Am I able to opt out of ROTC and accept the SMART scholarship because I don't currently have a commitment? The SMART scholarship actually provides more in school benefit and also aligns better with what I'd like to do long term.
