Truman Scholarship?

My faculty rep approached me about a nomination for the Truman scholarship which can be deferred for up to four years. I recently received SMART for two years of service.

Can I complete my undergrad and service requirement under SMART and defer the Truman award until grad school since SMART and Truman won't ever be used in conjunction? Has anyone been in a similar situation?
