If you're a past but not current use and you lie about it in the investigation and they find out, you will not get a clearance. If you're a user and they find out after you're hired, you'll lose your clearance and get fired. And they will find out, especially if you're submitted for TS or SCI.
Basically, save yourself the trouble.
What about past users (not user, experimenter), if they do not lie would they still receive clearance since it was past and sporadic activity?
Past experimenters that do lie, how would they find out, if it was years ago.
What type of drug tests and how long does it test back to? Opportunities shouldn't be taken away because of what you did when you were 16.
The short answer is "it depends". I've had my TS for 5 years now and I've been drug tested many times. Depending on the drug you have used in the past and how long ago it was they will make a determination. There is not set yes for this or no for this. (As far as I know) I have no idea what they test for or how far back the test goes. I can't image it's super far back though. Pretty sure they are urine tests, at least that's what I've always been given.
They will find out because they show up to at all of your past residences, schools, and employment. They ask about you and *someone* will say something.
