Just to follow up on this, I was called by my SF this morning and they said they are starting to put the internship papers together in the event that I am selected, since the process is running so late this year and may get delayed even further.[/quote]

I am in the exact same boat as you, finishing my Bachelor's and waiting to here back about a follow-on award for my Master's. I had the same questions and confirmed the following with SMART.

First, you will be expected to complete an internship the summer in between the two awards.

Second, it is not too late to set-up the internship. I was told by SMART since follow-on awards are not guaranteed, you cannot submit the internship request form until after you are given the follow-on award.

This is my last year in school finishing up my Bachelors under a SMART scholarship. I talked with my SF and put in an application for a type 1 follow on award for another year of school to finish up a Masters. My question is, should I be accepted, whether or not I will be able to work an internship in the coming summer. Based on my experience when I first received the award, there was no internship in the summer directly after I was awarded the scholarship.
