Data science is just as hot a topic right now. Data anything really. My B.S. was in statistics and I'm currently getting my M.S. in statistical computing and data mining. I can't tell you how many phone calls I got from different facilities that were interested in my background. I believe the facility that chose me is currently working on building a data science team/department because they mentioned that quite a few of their employees recently enrolled in a new data science masters program at a local university. I would definitely mention your interest in data science because it can only help your chances.

Can I only get this with Cyber Security?

I know this is a little late to be asking, but are applicants mainly chosen if they have an interest and drive towards working in cyber security when it comes to computer science? I am officially a scientific applications concentration, want to change it to data science. I had written in my application my interests in driverless cars and how important that is to me, due to a car accident I had. Would not showing a lot of interest in cyber security automatically have me denied of the SMART Scholarship for Service program?
