Got an official response back from the SMART email account yesterday. They said that as long as it didn't change my graduation date or cause me to drop below full time status, I was good to withdraw from the course.

I actually withdrew from a non-required course this semester in favor of a research opportunity.

I called the SMART office and spoke to the lady who handles everything now. She essentially said that as long as it doesn't affect your graduation, it is okay. I didn't get an official email on this though, but as long as it has no lasting impact, I doubt they care much at all.

Withdrawing from a nonrequired course

Hey,

I'm considering withdrawing from one of my courses that is not related to, or required for my major. My university says that the withdrawal will not affect my GPA, but will be reported as withdrawn on my transcript. I emailed SMART to ask if this was allowed under the scholarship requirements, but they haven't yet answered. I was wondering if anyone else has withdrawn from a course while being funded by SMART, and if they had any information about how they deal with it.

Thanks.
