You'll want to check with your SF. Your SF has to submit you to the appropriate DoD authority for approval for TS (and SCI, if necessary). SMART has no influence over that process.

You are correct, by default SMART puts everyone in for Secret clearance since that gives them the most flexibility in terms of moving people, if need be.

The security office at your SF is able to verify what level clearance you hold or are under investigation for; I would contact them sooner rather than later if I were you.

Does anyone know what level of security clearance SMART has everyone apply for? I believe it is just a Secret clearance, however nobody at SMART or my SF notified me of what level.
