For scholars that left their SF after their commitment; how easy was it to find a job after?
Particularly in a different field such as outside of defense? I’m not sure if I’d like to transition to another defense job after my commitment, and I’m worried I’ve been pigeonholed.
Job searching after commitment
Re: Job searching after commitment
I mean, finding a new job is easy. You are a government employee and if you hit the 3 year mark you get:
1) Vested in pension
2) Increase to 20 days PTO a year (from 13)
3) Tenure (Permanent status)
With tenure you have priority to move into any job in government over the public. So if you want to work for State, Energy, or move to another branch or country base, that is fine. I am considering transferring to Tokyo.
