Site Visit Question

Post by Finster »

After notification of award - how quickly can a site visit be arranged with the SF? Can it be in April/May time frame?

For my site, they let us know the day. Everyone came on the same day, we didn't schedule it ourselves. The SF will likely contact you, but can't hurt to reach out.

I did mine in early May. Just complete the site visit paperwork and discuss what dates would be suitable for your SF before entering the site visit dates on the form.

For the site visits, are we allowed to bring a guest with us or does it depend on the facility?

I wouldn't. It would be like bringing someone on a job interview with you. It's specifically for you and would be awkward.

I agree, you shouldn't try to bring anyone on your visit to the actual facility, but it would be completely appropriate to to bring a guest on your trip. Especially if they are a spouse or serious partner that will be relocating to the area with you. When you go on your site visit you should be scouting both the SF and the new city/area where you will be expected to move, so if someone is going to move with you, it only makes sense they get to see it too.

If a job would require you to relocate, it is quite common for prospective employers to pay bring you and a spouse/partner out to the area once you get to a certain point in the interview process. However, in this case, I don't think SMART or your SF would provide you any additional money for your guest, so it would be on your own dime.
