Part Time Job in Phase 1

Post by Tech_Girl »

I have a part time job right now with a program that's tied to my university. Currently I am contracted out with another company through this program so technically I am considered a staff at the university. Half of my paycheck comes from the program and the other half comes from the state. Does this mean that the job that I'm "federally employed" and would have to quit this job?

You are receiving state funding so at most you would be a state employee, which is different from federal. I would email start to confirm this, but you should be in the clear. Remember there is a limit put on the amount you can work while in school.

Does this mean Federal Work Study would be an issue, and that I should ask for student employment funding to not come from FWS?
I'd also imagine that with financial aid changes due to SMART, any FWS would probably be taken away.

I'm not sure Federal Work Study would be an issue because I assume they say you technically aren't a federal employee or something like that. Although, like you point out, you will probably lose eligibility because of the extra SMART funding.

FWS is considered additional government funding, so you wouldn't be able to have a FWS job as the only funding you can receive from the government is federal loans and the SMART scholarship/stipends.

I had a federal work study while on SMART.

Before you email to ask if its ok,
here's an excellent life lesson I have learned.

DONT ASK QUESTIONS FOR ANSWERS YOU DONT WANT TO HEAR
