Scholarships, Rejecting Federal Financial Aid

Post by Guest »

I contacted SMART, and they said I have to reject federal financial aid by August 1st to receive SMART funding. I rejected all federal funding but I have received scholarships from the state I'm in, as well as the public university that I attend. Does a state scholarship and a public school scholarship count as federal financial aid or can I accept those scholarships as well? Thanks!

How did you reject your federal financial aid? I called my school and was told I have to hand deliver them a letter stating that I wish to reject my financial aid.

You may accept state scholarships, grants, federal loans, and any school or private scholarships.

You can reject financial aid by doing exactly what you said. Alternatively, have a meeting with financial aid and tell them you need to drop Pell Grant. They should tell you the steps you need to do.

Yeah, what do I do if my school flat out told me they're not canceling my aid and continue to refuse to do it?

does anyone know if when smart is charged, if they will be paying for the whole of tuition before any other scholarships are applied.

or if they will pay the remainder....
because I feel as though they should pay for the full tuition because that's what their promising,----- in short I don't really know how to address to both SMART and my school without sounding like I'm "money hungry" for wanting my refund checks. ( because I need that money for other expenses that will not all be able to be covered by SMART stipends)

I believe that depends purely on your school's policy. My school applies outside aid first to the balance, then any institutional aid to the remainder. My school doesn't give refunds for remaining institutional scholarships, however. SMART will pay for your full tuition no matter the cost. I'd look into your school's policy or contact your financial aid office.
