Internship still hasn't been approved

So, my internship still hasn't been approved and it is supposed to start on May 20th.
I live about 250 miles away from my sponsoring facility and I have a dog and I'm seriously beginning to worry that even if it is approved, I won't be able to find a place to live before it starts.

I've been in contact with my scholar coordinator for months regarding this. I've sent countless emails and all I've been given is that my internship is being processed now and to not find housing until it gets approved. It's 8 days away.
I contacted my SF contact about a week ago and explained the issue to her, and she hasn't responded.

Does anyone have any experience with this? If it doesn't get approved until like the day before (as it's starting to look like), am I expected to scramble and find 3 months worth of housing overnight?
I'm 8 days away and I'm freaking out.

Any help/recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you receive the extra funds in your April stipend? SMART told me the approval letter would come later if I got that funding, which proved to be true when the approval arrived last week.

For last minute housing options, look at local universities and extended stay hotels. You can also check Facebook groups or somewhere like craigslist for people looking for sublets. I’m married and have an apartment downtown D.C. but have to travel across the country for my SF. I signed a lease for the entire length of grad school and moving furniture is annoying, so we are staying in a hotel near my SF for the internship. I think it’s like $5,000 for all 10 weeks so only half of the extra money is going to housing. I believe most Home2 Suites (Hilton) and Residence Inn (Marriott) allow pets with a deposit. Plus, free breakfast and a pool!

My biggest problem is that I have a lab and I have nobody to take care of him, I've got to take him with me. It really limits my options.

And, yes, I received the stipend, but I was explicitly told not to search for housing until my internship approval came through, because if it doesn't come through, I will owe the stipend back to them.

A few thoughts, that are hopefully helpful:

My experience interning (Civil engineering, Air Force, JBSA) is that everyone is actually super laid back and will work with you to iron everything out after deadlines have passed. I now that doesn't sound nice, but it is actually quite reassuring. the scholarship/interning is a huge deal to us, but to them its not really important.
When I interned last summer, I literally showed up to the gate and no one had sponsored me and when I called around, they said "You're coming today? Oops. We thought you were getting the emails our other interns (PCIPs, not SMART scholars) were getting."

Pick up the phone. Seriously, email is for the birds. I spent 8 weeks trying to figure out some LWOP with one of my supervisors and he finally stopped responding to my emails (turns out he left on assignment for two months). Then my deadline passed and I panicked and picked up the phone and made a few calls and had everything figured out within 6 hours.

What I say you should do is call them, explain the situation (again), and make sure they know that you need more than a few days notice to make the move for work. I know that might sound stressful because you'll just be waiting around for a few more days, but you really just have to wait for them to catch up and prioritize you.
