New Awardee Grad Date Adjustment

Post by Guest »

I just wanted to ask if anyone has had to change grad dates after just receiving the award and what was your experience with it? I'm so worried I'll be dismissed. Thanks!

This happened to me last year. In your portal, there should be a place to submit an adjustment. What is the adjustment you need? I didn't have any issues, but mine was moving my graduation date up 3 months (May to Feb).

I ended up extending my degree by an entire year. I had to submit some paperwork, and get my SF to approve the change. Overall it seemed that the SF's approval was the most important factor.

I applied for two 1 year extentions over the course of Phase 1 and both were accepted without issue. The first one was because I stupidly forgot to change the amount of time requested from the previous years application. I applied for the extension almost immediately after receiving the award.

I asked for the 2nd extention a year before my expected graduation date because Phds don't always go according to plan and I needed more time.

This is guest. Thanks for all the replies! I contacted my SF and they said it shouldnt be a problem on their end! They also told me to contact the scholar support specialist for my branch of the military however I could not find it? Also, when I went to adjust my award grad date I changed the year correctly however somehow the month on the request wasnt there even though it was a requirement to submit the request? I dont know. I havent been able to sleep at night because of this. Thabks for all the help though!

Has anyone heard back about any award adjustments?

When I submitted my adjustment last year, it took a couple months for them to approve it. They approved before I started phase 1, but I don't remember how long it took. It also took a while after that for me to receive an adjusted contract.

I don't know what to say about a month area not showing up in the adjustment request area. I hope you got it figured out, but if not, I would reach out to SMART.

Oh wow @GuestAnon, a few months is a long time to wait in the dark about that - I called them and was told that they cannot guarantee that a decision will be reached before the document submission deadline (which was yesterday), and to just wait.
I saw in the forum that in past years, a number of people have gotten notification emails the morning of the document deadline date approving their requests.
