Masters in CS starting salary?

Postby MSinCS » Fri Jun 09, 2017 2:54 pm

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there are any phase 2 masters in CS grads out there who would be willing to share the starting salary they got offered. Looking at the payscale online is a little disheartening, honestly to the point where it might be worth it for me to just back out of the award.

Getting paid $30,000 as a reasonably skilled MS CS student would be a huge opportunity cost...

I'm not a CS but with a little digging it's fairly easy to find. Below is the link to the "official" pay thread:

The 5th and 6th posters on that thread are a PhD and BS in comp sci respectively.
And just to give you a little more faith any Master's will not receive lower than a GS-9 which the BASE is $43,251. In addition to that there is pretty much always a locality adjustment which raises the salary too. I get that that is not the highest but from what I've seen on that thread above the majority of people get large pay jumps or raises fairly quickly the first couple years.
