Few Questions

Post by ExcitedlyAccepted »

Hi all,

I am proud to say my sponsoring facility called on Thursday and said I've been accepted and awarded the SMART scholarship. I am a PhD in Chemical Engineering and will be at the Environmental Research and Development Center. Being newly accepted I have a few questions:

1. How long did it take from completion of paperwork to get your travel stipend for the site visit?
2. Do we get paid at the beginning of each month during the stipend period, biweekly, or at the end of the month? I'm going in my honeymoon at the end of August and would love the money before we go to better enjoy our trip.
3. What are the biggest issues you've had with doing your paperwork so far?

Thanks!

AFTER YOU RECEIVE AN AWARD

Stipend

Direct Deposit from ASEE every third Friday of the month. However, you may not receive the full amount depending on the length of your award. For instance, I was selected in April, orientation was June, and payments started in August at 25,000/12 months = $2083.33. However, I will only receive this while I am not working for my facility. Assuming I start working on July 1, 2010, I will only be paid by SMART for 10 months x $2083.33.

Just a little note, probably the only time you will ever need to contact ASEE, other than mailing in a few forms, is if you have a payment issue. Otherwise, you always deal with SMART directly.

1. Not there yet
2. Congrats!
3. The biggest issue I've had is scheduling my site visit: took a week to get a response from my POC (I would suggest calling). Then she forwarded me to someone else, who then forwarded me to someone else and then that person has yet to respond!! I would get started on this first. Also, the EWP can take a long time.

Congratulations on getting accepted!!
