SMART paying for school

Postby RGuest » Wed May 31, 2017 10:46 pm

Hey guys,

So I know from reading previous posts that my school will have to send a bill to SMART and then SMART will pay the bill off. I wanted to hear from scholars who have gone through this process how it worked for you and if you had any issues with SMART paying the bill in a reasonable time.

I got a little nervous the first time around, but I have never had any issues. The way my school does it, I get invoices before each semester, as if I was paying it myself. I'm supposed to pay my portions (dorms, food, etc.) and ignore the rest. Then SMART is invoiced and pays their portion. To the outside observer it seemed like SMART was paying their part very late, but according to my school, they only bill SMART after the add/drop date for classes (weeks after the start of the semester), so SMART is actually paying everything on time.

So you informed your school that SMART would be paying your tuition and fees, provided SMART's information for them and then they took care of the rest?

Yes! In Late-July or August SMART will provide a letter that you need to send to your school Bursar's Office. The letter gives SMART's billing/contact details, explains the scholarship, and establishes third-party billing. I sent in the letter and checked in after a couple weeks to make sure they got it, and then the school handled the rest.

Does anyone know about scholarships you receive from your school? Would SMART cover the rest or can I get a refund on my scholarship at the end of the year?

I have gotten a scholarship from my school. SMART covered the entire cost of tuition & fees and I was refunded for the amount of my school's scholarship. I believe you have to report outside scholarships to SMART. I reported it and still got the refund.
