Has anyone applied for NREIP along with SMART? There is no Unofficial (Official) NREIP forum so I was just curious. Does anyone know if being accepted/denied for NREIP has any bearing on SMART selection seeing as though it appears the same SFs are involved?

if i remember correctly, applications for SMART and NREIP happen about the same time. the strategy would be apply for both at the same time since NREIP would have allowed you to work this summer while SMART doesn't kick in until August. NREIP would allow you to test drive the SF for a summer, with no further obligations to that program.

Thanks a bunch! I didn't know if being accepted/denied for one would give one a leg up/down with the other.

if you got into NREIP but not SMART, the NREIP experience would help you on the next SMART application. you would be able to use references from the SF, and cite any projects that you worked on.

don't forget the Pathways program for students and recent graduates (go to usajobs, and search using "pathways"). use any and all of these options to get experience, and a leg up.

I applied for NREIP & SMART at the same time, then again I had also been in the SEAP program two years beforehand. I applied for NREIP & SMART in the fall of my Freshman year and recieved the notification that I had been accepted into NREIP in March. Then a bit later in April, I recieved the confirmation that I was selected for SMART. Neither overlapped and everything seemed to work out :)
