I'm noticing a pattern here, aside from us BYU students haha, but all of us are EE/CS majors. I know EE/CS are SMART's more prominent awardees and not many engineers/CS people are getting the temp closed message. Maybe the invalid user/pass does mean something. Pure speculation of course.

Also note that many schools have a limit of awardees too. If the average number of awardees from BYU is met then they probably won't add more. Also I'm a CS Major in a really sought after program with a 3.98, had multiple interviews/recommendations, and am getting temp closed.

Computer Engineering, PHD

Research on cyber security.

Although not really an electrical engineer, I feel part of this category. I said I would be recommended as well... Hopefully it does mean something.

Each BYU school is its own seperate university so the limit to awardees shouldn't be affected.

Hey, that's really fucking cool. I feel like this scholarship limits you more then it expands your horizons.

Hey man, I just want some funding. I mean, you know, it is very hard to do particle physics these days since there are very limited funding sources available... Also, Berkeley guy, why did you make a typo "Berkley" ...

I hear ya! I always thought this scholarship was more engineer oriented though. Like the DOD likes research but only in the sense that has a relatively immediate military consequence. This reminds of one my favorite pieces of congressional testimony made by Dr. Robert Wilson trying to get funding for the first Fermilab's first accelerator.

"
SENATOR PASTORE. Is there anything connected in the hopes of this accelerator that in any way involves the security of the country?

DR. WILSON. No, sir; I do not believe so.

SENATOR PASTORE. Nothing at all?

DR. WILSON. Nothing at all.

SENATOR PASTORE. It has no value in that respect?

DR. WILSON. It only has to do with the respect with which we regard one another, the dignity of men, our love of culture. It has to do with those things.

It has nothing to do with the military. I am sorry.

SENATOR PASTORE. Don't be sorry for it.

Hey man. Yes, my advisor told me that story last semester too. Man, I really appreciate that you understand us. My engineer roommates are pretty ignorant about particle physics and do not understand how much impact the showdown of Tevatron at Fermilab on our field and future.
