Re: Part time last semester
While technically you'd only go on probation if this was a one time thing I would not suggest risking it the very last semester of your degree. It's too much of a risk that they say no you're out and make you pay back all the scholarship money.

Re: Second Round Award Notifications
I imagine two weeks - that's how long original applicants have to accept.
BUT - some people can even get called later in the summer, if someone drops out last minute or if someone leaves after they visit their facility in June.

Re: Rejection Email
Was yours a straight up rejection? Mine says that I haven't been given an award yet and that awards are still being given out for the next few weeks. That's what they all say, gives me a little hope but I feel like it's just a "let them down easy" sort of thing just in case some awardees don't acce...

I actually got a response from my senator's office! They are going to do some more research into the program and how it is being run, starting with talking to representatives from the DoD. This seems fair, and I am hopeful the responses they receive will illuminate how poorly the people with except...

Re: Spots per SF
Unless they specifically told you during an interview then no. Most of them also don't really know how many they'll end up with. They submit as many names as possible in order of how you're ranked among other applicants then the scholarship people offer off of that. Last year my SF hired 10 people, ...

It's 33,000 a year. I don't remember the bracket but the lowest number ($25k?) is the B.S. student stipend, highest is PH.D. ($37k?) and then M.S. is in the middle at $33k.

Re: Not completing the master's thesis requirement
I was also wondering if smart distinguished between a thesis and non-thesis master's because it looks like my thesis may cause me to extend my contract which I would rather not do, so if anybody hears anything please post on the thread. no - as long as you get the degree they don't care So they don...

Re: Internship Form and Clearance
I would just assume/budget as though you're not getting an support payments. Continue living without that extra $1000 a week. That is your worst case. No one has gotten their form back and you can still do basic things without clearance at most places.

I'm a 2017 awardee but I did receive it. Concerns me because they have me as "Below a 2.0 GPA" even though my GPA is NOT a 2.0 (3.644). I have contacted my coordinator but he refuses to answer my questions. Can I ask, where are you seeing your below 2.0 status?? It was on my profile somewhere. I do...

Re: SMART Scholarships Affected by New Budget?
Last year they were. That's how there ended up being two large rounds of scholarships instead of one normal and one to fill in for people who turn it down. It was basically two rounds one of 200 and one of 150 (ish). But there are not nearly as many people saying they've been interviewed this year a...

For 8-12 weeks you'll probably always do better with an Airbnb unless you happen to be in a college town where there are a bunch of subleases. Also keep in mind with apartments you're going to have to furnish them if you rent them like a normal rental which can get expensive! I would suggest emailin...

Some years you hear as early as the first week of april, other years you hear in late may. You'll most likely get an ambiguous sound denial email because you can also get accepted if someone else drops out after their SF visit in mid-late june.

There is nothing you can do besides wait and see if someone picked you without an interview. If they didn't you apply again next year. There is no appeals process you are either selected or you aren't.

Basically your facility interviewed some amount of students. They then rank you guys for who their top choices are. The facilities don't seem to know how many people they will get so they send a list with a lot of extra choices. In the case of being on multiple lists you'll be given to the one who y...

I am loving it. But you are right LMI right now is dead set on following the "rules" to the T. So they're making it difficult to do things out of the ordinary. However, the benefits have outweighed this as I love the job prospect and my Masters degree is getting funded. If you are going to be on a n...

nope. But I think that it might have to do with whatever our SF needs to do on their end. At my SF I know we don't have specific placements yet and maybe SMART is waiting on that.

No, but I've gotten the impression that locals, past or current employees are preferred... :/ Current Employees (Retention applicants) will not be considered in the same way new employees (Recruitment Applicants) will be considered. They hire based on your geographic willingness. I.e. If you put yo...
