I am currently a 2nd yr Ph.D. in microbiology focusing on environmental biotech for biofuels/biomaterials. I applied to the SMART and am currently waiting to find out the good/bad news. I was curious how many on the forum are in the biology field? Also a few other questions:
Did you enjoy your research?
Was it related to biology and/or even in R&D?
Medical/bioweapons related or was it is biotech with the DoD's more recent initiative in biomaterials/bioenergy?
What labs did you end up in?
I have read some very negative responses about the award and many not ending up in their field/lab. Just trying to weigh out the pros and cons/ if I'll fit in.
