I just received my first chunk of ISPs the other day, but I still have yet to receive an email confirmation that my internship request has been approved. I guess I'll take that ISP chunk as a yes

Thank you both! This helped a bunch! I will start looking into arrangements and book them asap!

I had emailed SMART about this and got a response today:

Thank you for your email. I can answer a few of your questions but on one item I will be communicating with our SMART team members working on the site visit funding.

· The funding is not a reimbursement process, but rather a flat rate amount for any scholars whose summer address is more than 50 miles away from the site visit. For those 50-200 miles the rate is $500 and for those 200 miles or more the rate is $2000 for travel to and from the site visit.

· No additional funds will be provided.

· No receipts will be requested after the site visit.

· Whether a scholar receives the funding before or after their site visit depends on a few different factors such as dates of site visit vs. when funding is processed for all scholars.

This last part is what I will clarify with my fellow SMART team members responsible for processing funding. Since I see on your form that you are going in May vs. July (for instance). You may need to pay for your travel arrangements knowing that you will receive the funding soon after. if I receive info that funding will be going out soon, I will e-mail back by tomorrow afternoon.

I would highly suggest, assuming you can afford it, making all your plans as soon as you're approved to travel. You should be paid before your visit but I think mine was less than a week out. The hotel was pay upon arrival, but I got the flights for (made up numbers) $200 rather than $500 if I had waited until they paid me.

Just wondering for people who have done this before, did you get the travel allowance before or after your site visit? and if it was before, how early in advance did you get it? Just trying to make plans with flights and hotel rooms as soon as i can. Thanks!
