There are some other good interim clearance conversations, but TL;DR
1) yes a few people
2) you could be told two months before your start day
3) various reasons; there have been issues with the process this year for one
4) the smart handbook says you can’t go on your internship but if your office doesn’t require a clearance you may be able to go

You can email SMART. The person who is my branch head is super nice and helpful.
